  • Content areas of the exam are identified and covered so you do not waste time studying material that is not on the exam

  • Terms and code required procedures are explained

  • Questions that explore your knowledge of the material are provided to ensure your understanding.

  • Conflicts between the Carpentry book and the International Residential Code are identified so that you will use the correct data on the exam

  • Study tips and suggestions are provided

Package Contents

You will receive all of the reference materials necessary for the exam.  It is critical to have the right material because the exam questions are constructed from them.  Not all books are the same.  Here is what you will get:

  • Residential Sample Exam contains both questions  and answers for a realistic exam taking experience

  • Virginia Safety combines the important sections of Virginia and Federal OSHA regulations covered on the BLD exam, underground utilities, and excerpts to cover the excavating and grading questions.

  • 2003 International Residential Code which brings together the provisions for all the components of homebuilding: building, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy, and electrical in one comprehensive manual

  • Carpentry and Building Construction, 6th Ed by John Louis Feirer which makes a valuable reference for any contracting business while also covering many topics on the BLD exam such as building layout, plan reading, foundations, framing, roof materials, interiors and more

  • Virginia Building Exam Study Program Manual by Bob Gregory.  This is the step-by-step learning experience that will take the contractor through the content areas that are explored on the exam.

  • Permanent tabs for the Carpentry and the Code book to facilitate easy reference during the exam.

Escape Routes.  A trench that is four or more feet in depth requires a means to get out of the trench such as a ladder.   These are located so that a person does not have to travel more than 25’. This requirement is in OSHA on page 173.

 Question:

1.  A trench is 4 ˝ feet deep and 50’ long.  How many means of egress    is/are required?  1, 2, 3 or 4?

2.  The same trench is now 100’ long.  How many means of egress is/are required?  1, 2, 3, or 4?

 Answer:

1.  A 50’ trench requires one means of egress.  Place the ladder in the middle of the trench and a person at the extreme end is only 25’ to the ladder.

 2.  A 100’ trench requires two means of egress.  Place ladders 25’ from each end of the trench and a person standing in the middle of the trench, at the 50’ mark, will only need to travel either direction 25’ to the nearest ladder.

For those that selected more ladders, that would meet OSHA but we want to select only right answers for the exam.

Price:  $295 Includes all the manuals, shipping and handling and tax.
